The laboratories of the National University Hospital provide diverse laboratory services. In the haematology and chemical pathology departments around 550.000 tests are carried out every year and around 125.000 in the microbiological and virological departments. Likewise, 50.000 tests are carried out in the radiology and diagnostic imaging department every year. The hospital provides laboratory services for other hospitals and health care institutions in the country by using the latest computer and telecommunications technology. In this way, new possibilities have emerged in health care services in the country, via telemedicine. The National University Hospital will be  a centre for telemedicine, giving the people equal access to specialized services, independent of their place of residence.

     There are eleven operating theatres in the hospital and on average 35 operations of varying sizes are carried out there every day. Increasingly, laparoscopy has been used. Such operations are less traumatic for the patient than conventional operations, stay is shorter and therefore cost is reduced. Similarly, heart surgery and coronary angioplasty have progressed greatly in the last few years, based on more advanced technology.
